I was lucky enough to see this film on VHS shortly after it was released. It was and remains to this day one of my favorite movies. It's not perfect. The scene between Aiello and Polly Draper could have been dropped. Such a shame to waste her talents with so little to do. But the rest of the film is just great. Completely character driven and with a great plot twist at the end.
I'll be in NYC in a couple of months for the first time since the 1970s, well before this movie came out. I've already made reservations at the Gigino Trattoria for lunch. I wonder if I'll be able to recognize anything about the interior.
I've got the DVD and watch this film probably once every two or three years. It's also out on YouTube now.
I just discovered this movie as well…. Loved it watched twice and have told all my friends to watch.
