It's pretty simple. Watch games and go to games with your kids if you can when they're old enough to share your love of baseball. Including minor league games, which are much cheaper and very fun in their own way. It's a great way to spend time with them, and ballpark food/snacks are awesome for kids even if they aren't really into the game.
But don't push a team on a kid. Let them decide for themselves. If they really catch the bug, it will be a lifelong relationship, so it should be their call.
The Mets kids club is the best deal in NYC. From age 2-12 my daughter ran the bases every non pandemic season. Plus you get free tix and other perks. Look it up dude, you’ll be sold. And Citi is way more fun for kids.
She joined the newly created Teen Club this year and went to to her first solo Mets game.
Our family has always rooted for the Yankees and the Jets. (My sister briefly defected and became a Mets fan, and married an Eagles fan, but we forgive her). The Yankees have always made it easy to stay loyal, but the Jets... jeez. The one game we went to see as a family was against the Bears at the Meadowlands -- Jets were two yards from a touchdown, first down, and couldn't get it in. The Bears intercepted the last pass, ran 120 yards and scored. There was guy about 12 rows ahead of us in a Berman jersey who the crowd abused the entire game. We still joke about that game decades later. As for the Jets, they're hopeless. I laugh at anyone who tries to come at me with some version of this is the year, that new quarterback looks good, first draft pick, etc., etc. And yet, it's fun too -- in a comedic, sad clown kind of way. The point is, you really can't screw it up.
When I was six my hockey team somehow almost won the Stanley Cup and then didn’t, by a goal and a puck off the post, which taught me two important lessons: cheering for bad teams is better than cheering for good teams, and the point of sports is to make you sad.
Sorry for your loss. Stinks they’re leaving. I’ve got a 91 Jordan where he’s in a uni and taking practice swings and another from when he played in the minors. Is there a new one?
as a new new york resident, citi field does feel better, a bit more relaxed
i'm a rays fan and i love their stadium, baseball in the AC is amazing
I’ve never been able to enjoy dome baseball but I feel like I would more in Florida or Arizona.

Oakland fan here but I lived in L.A. forever and root for the Dodgers as well.
Cool write up. Thanks for sharing.
P.S. you got that Jordan Upper Deck baseball card?

Yep. That’s the one. Pretty iconic card. I know I was chasing it as a then-15 year old.
